Those In The Know

Deborah Hutton - Media Personality & Designer"This is such a clever initiative and one that hopefully brings attention to those with a keen eye for fashion. Salvos Stores have long been a treasure trove of great recycled pieces both for the home and for the wardrobe. If we can get more people to cast their eye through the Salvos Stores clothing racks then the benefits roll on from there. As we all know, with the Salvo’s every dollar counts and let’s face it they need our help now more than ever!"

Deborah Hutton - Media Personality & Designer

Peter Morrissey - Designer"As a fashion designer I would like to say thankyou as Fashion doesn’t die...it wants to live through someone's life again...to create a moment is easy in fashion, to create a feeling that lives over and over again is truly what its all about. I always say to people "I can make you look good but I can’t make you feel good - Well Salvos Stores can!!!"

Peter Morrissey - Designer

Bianca Spender - Designer"I love shopping in Salvos Stores as it is always a discovery, I never know what I am going to find. Some of my most prize possessions are things I have found in their stores. Each store has its own unique style and offering. Some are great for furniture, some for women’s clothes, others for men’s and kids, books and puzzles. Each piece has a history to a different time, place and person, each piece is unique."

Bianca Spender - Designer

Kirrily Johnston - Designer"We often use the theme of old and new in our design aesthetic so this season we wanted to take it one stepfurther and not just reference the old but actually incorporate some second hand clothing. We wanted to create awareness about recycling for the AW 09 Collection, so we have mixed new wools (both knitted and woven) with old jumpers that we have collected from The Salvation Army Salvos Stores."

Kirrily Johnston - Designer

Melanie Cutfield - Designer"Salvos Stores have hidden gems that you can hunt for and when you take things from the past out of their context as a second hand item, they can be beautiful in their own right. Everything we own should have more than one owner at one point... Recycled clothing is not only chic, it is necessary in cutting down the Australian populations consumer lifestyles."

Melanie Cutfield - Designer

Natalie Bassingthwaighte - Singer & Actress"I love mixing vintage pieces with current trends, by throwing away your old clothes you might just be throwing away something that someone else will love and vice versa. And the best bit is, all the money goes to helping those in need."

Natalie Bassingthwaighte - Singer & Actress

Penny Hunt – Stylist"Salvos is today's new shopping hotspot for fashion gems. Vintage, unique, individual and edgy pieces line the racks waiting to take pride in my wardrobe and knowing I am giving back to the community makes my shopping sprees worth it!"

Penny Hunt – Stylist

Mirrah Foulkers - Actress"I get all my really treasured clothes from the Salvo's. Like most things, we don't make clothes like we used to! Why buy cheap, poorly made stuff from third world countries when you can shop at places like the Salvos where you can find really great quality recycled clothing and support community and environment at the same time."

Mirrah Foulkers - Actress

Emily Barclay - Actress"Shopping at the Salvos Stores is a really worthwhile thing to do - reusing and recycling clothes is a great way in which you can practice being an ethical consumer, plus instead of just following trends and looking like everyone else you can find great one off pieces. I always look out for cool old coats - like military jackets - they're super well made and I like the history they carry with them. The other day I found an amazing red nurses cape from the second world war.. I feel like little red riding hood in it."
